Gharial Skeleton Art Print

• By 1976 the gharial population had been decreased to 2%, less than 200 gharials remain in the wild. They have a unique, elongated, thin snout that is highly specialized to catching fish in rushing river waters.

• Fun Fact :  When gharials mature, the male and females look different - the males grow a cartilaginous knob at the tip of their snout. The name gharial came from the nasal bulb which resembles the Indian pottery "ghara." The male gharials use their snouts to blow bubbles and a buzzing sound to attract female partners.
